PSHENICHNAYA EKATERINA contemporary artist

Biography

Ekaterina Pshenichnaya
Born in Stary Oskol, Belgorod Region. In 2017, she relocated to Krasnodar – a city that became not just her home, but a catalyst for her artistic awakening and the starting point for developing her personal myth.

An artist working at the intersection of myth and practice. Her foundation is neo-archaism and natural materials (bones, stones, clay), which she perceives as active allies with their own agency – "witnesses of deep time".

2025: Resident, Art&Science Laboratory "Conscious Consumption"
2025: Participant, "Summer School" by Ilya Shipilovskikh
2025: Completed lecture course "Philosophy of the Body, Corporeality and Sexuality" by independent researcher Alexey Verzunov
2024: Participant, "Your Art Muse" program by Maria Khiltunen (Sedoshenko)
2022–2024: Worked in the studio of Maxim Gerbel, Krasnodar

Participated in exhibitions including the "Mirror of the Epoch" contemporary art exhibition at the F.A. Kovalenko Krasnodar Municipal Art Museum and the annual auction held by the "Ayaks" Real Estate Agency, Krasnodar.

Artist Statement

My profound love for nature and its exploration is my central focus. In response to the challenges of our time – ecological anxiety, information overload, the loss of connection with nature and each other – I create art that investigates nature's healing power and cognitive resource.

Employing mediums ranging from traditional painting (oil, acrylic) to digital technologies (video, stereoscopic imagery) and installation, I construct new cosmologies. My projects are a search for roots, transmuted into tools for the future. Here, technology serves as a mediator, not a controller, bridging the material and the digital, the human and the natural. This is the folklore of the digital age, the archaeology of the coming era.

Today, on my earthly birthday, I declare the launch of the "TITANS" project: a dialogue with silicon-based life through the language of art-science.

RITUAL 2024-2025

The "Rituals" project explores ancient forms reinterpreted through the lens of contemporary artistic language.

The artist gathers forgotten cosmologies and transforms traditions into hybrid forms. Here, clay and code, bone fragments and algorithms, ornament and pixel merge into new systems of orientation. A key motif — the rhombus — symbolizes fertility, resilience, and survival.

The female figures emerging in the works are hybrid entities, existing at the intersection of Slavic archaism and digital generative systems. The past here is not an object of nostalgia, but a foundation for creating new myths.

Inspired by rites and folklore, the artist creates patterns using oil paint and pastel. Then, using a knife, she partially scrapes away the top layer, revealing the texture beneath and adding an effect of time — as if the surface itself bears the traces of bygone eras.

From these patterns, stereoscopic images emerge. With specific focused gaze, hidden silhouettes are revealed within them. This is not merely a visual experiment, but a ritual — an act of concentrated "seeing", where the viewer becomes a participant.

The stereoscopic images challenge the stability of perception. To perceive the hidden, the viewer must move, shift their viewing angle — becoming a co-creator. This is not a visual game, but a ritual of interpreting signs.

Description of Interactive Ritual of Gratitude and Forgiveness. 2025.
The interactive installation "Ritual" invited visitors to become active participants in a transformative experience.
The Archetypes:
• The Goddess embodies Gratitude. Her form channels primal feminine energy—the source of life and nurturing care. She reminds us of the sacredness of birth, acceptance, and the joy of existence.
• The Dragon represents Forgiveness, incarnating the release of resentment and the cessation of pain. Forgiveness, as an act of inner liberation, preserves our inner light and propels us forward.

These archetypes reflect my core values: gratitude for life and the power to forgive—essential qualities that make us whole and truly alive.

The Interaction:
Beside the figurines, a QR code linked to a Telegram bot. Participants could:
1. Scan the code
2. Send anonymous messages of gratitude or forgiveness
3. Contribute to a "living chronicle" of collective emotion (message screenshots displayed in gallery, right).

Ritual. Threshold Figure.

Video Art, 5 sec visual loop / 5 min sound, MP4.

Music: Walter Maioli, Sea Language, Shells, 2025

This work explores the cyclical nature of imagery through medium transformation — from digital drawing and painting to stereoscopic imagery that reveals its depth only through focused gaze. Each cycle represents a return to self at a new level of awareness.

At its center lies the rhombus — an archetype of resilience and dissolution — becoming the generative pattern for the Goddess figure. She exists beyond time: composed of ancestral motifs yet dissolved into pixels. The looped video invites reinterpretation with each viewing.

The music establishes the ritual’s cadence: it activates states rather than illustrating them. Here, algorithm and brushstroke, body and symbol, sound and image merge into a meditative experience of cyclicity — not closed, but spiraling toward expanded consciousness.

Witnesses of Time 2022-2024

"Witnesses of Time" is an exploration of cyclicality, memory, and the fragile bond between humans and nature. The project is rooted in embodied, contemplative engagement with material time—manifested both in natural artifacts and in an artistic language that bridges analog and digital. Each element here is a trace, imprint, or voice of an era, extending into the artist’s personal experience.

At its core are found objects—skulls, stones, seeds, fossils—which serve as starting points for both painted imagery and digital works. They draw a parallel between organic and artificial bodies, between flesh and pixel.

The project does not seek to reconstruct the past; instead, the artist creates new intersections of time. These encounters unfold at the boundaries of mediums, where traditional techniques (oil, clay) coexist with video art and digital transformations—all united by a shared reverence for time as living matter.

"Voice of Nature"

Video art, 51 sec. looped visual sequence / 51 sec. meditative voice soundscape, MP4. 2025.

A manifesto of silence and belonging. Visually, the work is built upon nature’s cycles: slow transitions of water, mountains, and sky form an endless, purposeless movement. This is not a narrative but a state of being. It is amplified by the artist’s voice, echoing a meditative text:

"To sleep on the earth is a singular form of meditation, a way of knowing and merging with the very matter that composes our bodies…"

The phrase resonates as nature’s inner monologue channeled through humans—a prayer addressed to no one, yet needed by all. Sound and image work in tandem to create a dissolution effect: the boundaries between body, land, and time blur.

The video loops without beginning or end, mirroring nature itself. It does not tell a story but draws the viewer into a rhythm where each repetition offers a subtly new interpretation. An experience demanding slowness, it invites immersion into a unique visual and sensory state.

This collection brings together works, sketches, visual notes, and fragments that didn’t make it into final series yet hold intrinsic value. A space for experimentation and intuitive decisions—both in media and meaning. These images remain alive: some will become the foundation for future projects, others will endure as testaments to the journey.
